The Denver Nuggets continued their dominance over the Minnesota Timberwolves, recording a 142-138 overtime victory on Christmas Day at Ball Arena. Nikola Jokic scored a season-high 56 points for the Nuggets, who improved to 3-0 against the Wolves this season.
Jokic shot 15-for-21 from the field and 22-for-23 from the free-throw line. He added 16 rebounds and 15 assists to post his league-best 15th triple-double this season. It was just the second 50-15-15 triple-double in NBA history.
The Serbian star, who now has 179 career triple-doubles, is once again assembling another MVP-level campaign. He is averaging a triple-double through Denver’s first 30 games.
The Nuggets looked down and out after a late-game collapse saw their 106-91 lead with 5:54 left in the fourth quarter turn into a 124-115 advantage for the Wolves with 2:59 remaining in overtime.
Denver fought back, though, finishing the extra period on a 27-14 run to claim its 10th home win of the season. Jamal Murray also delivered for the Nuggets, finishing with 35 points and 10 assists in the come-from-behind win.
It was a disappointing defeat for the Wolves, who wasted a magnificent performance from Anthony Edwards. The 24-year-old guard scored 44 points, including a tough turnaround 3-pointer at the corner with 1.1 seconds left in the fourth quarter that sent the game into overtime.
Denver improved to 22-8 with the victory, while Minnesota fell to 20-11.
