Entering in the final period, Orlando's balanced attack produced a decisive 21-6 surge to take the lead.
The teams traded blows down the stretch, with Nikola Jokić drawing a foul on Wendell Carter Jr. in a jump ball situation and sinking two free throws with 12 seconds left to put Denver up by one.
Desmond Bane then drew a foul on the ensuing possession and calmly made both free throws with seven seconds remaining to reclaim the lead for Orlando.
Jamal Murray’s last-second shot missed the mark, sealing the dramatic one-point victory for the Magic.
For the Nuggets, Jokić recorded a massive triple-double with 34 points, 21 rebounds, and 12 assists in a losing effort, which left him one shy of tying Oscar Robertson for the most triple-doubles in NBA history.
Up next, the Magic will visit the Toronto Raptors on December 30, while the Nuggets will travel to face the Miami Heat on the same day.
