San Antonio Spurs fans heaved a huge sigh of relief on Thursday (PH time) as Victor Wembanyama avoided serious injury in their 134-132 win over the New York Knicks at Frost Bank Center.
According to basketball insider Shams Charania, Wembanyama suffered a slight hyperextension in his left knee. Initial tests came back negative, showing no major injury.
The Frenchman picked up the injury with 10:32 left in the fourth quarter after he landed awkwardly following a rebounding sequence. The Spurs stepped up in Wemby’s absence, rallying late to record the comeback win over the Knicks.
The injury bug hasn’t been kind to Wembanyama this season. He had earlier missed 12 games because of a calf injury. The good news for the 7-foot-6 star is that he will be able to return to action this season for the Spurs, who started the 2025-26 campaign with a 24-9 record.
