Vekic praises Alex Eala's Filipino fans after Kooyong Classic clash

Donna Vekic paid tribute to Alex Eala’s Filipino tennis fans after their latest showdown at the 2026 Kooyong Classic on Wednesday at the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club in Melbourne.
Vekic was amazed with Eala’s traveling support, having seen them last week at the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand and now here Down Under.
“Every time I feel like we’re playing in the center of the Philippines. There are so many of you guys out there,” Vekic quipped when asked about Eala’s fans.
They weren’t disappointed with Eala’s performance as she recorded a convincing 6-3, 6-4 victory over Vekic in their exhibition match.
It was the Quezon City native’s second straight win against Vekic, having beaten her 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in their previous meeting in the first round of the ASB Classic.
Eala and Vekic are using the Kooyong Classic as their final tune-up tournament for the Australian Open, scheduled to begin on Sunday, January 18.
