With the NBA trade deadline approaching, speculation has intensified around Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis, who currently tops The Athletic’s NBA Trade Value rankings. Conflicting reports surfaced Tuesday regarding whether Davis has formally requested a trade.
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported that Rich Paul, Davis’ agent, has communicated to the Mavericks a desire for Davis to be moved before the deadline, characterizing the message as clear and direct.
That report was later disputed by veteran NBA reporter Marc Stein, who said he was told no such request had been made. Stein added that a trade demand would not align logically with the timing of the deadline, which remains two weeks away. He reiterated that no request tied to an imminent move had been issued and emphasized that there is still ample time before the deadline.
Davis, 31, is averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game this season while shooting 50.6 percent from the field. With the NBA trade deadline set for February 6, the situation remains fluid as differing reports continue to circulate.
