Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala jumped to a career-high No.45 in the World Tennis Association (WTA) rankings released on Monday.
The rise came at the heels of the 20-year-old’s campaign in the inaugural WTA 125 Philippine Women’s Open and ahead of her stint in the WTA500 Abu Dhabi Open in the United Arab Emirates.

Eala, who came into the tournament at No.49, put up a strong showing in her first two matches before succumbing to the eventual champion Camila Osorio, 4-6, 4-6 in the quarterfinals.

Retaining her no. 1 spot in the rankings is Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus despite finishing second in the recently-concluded 2026 Australian Open.
The champion, Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan, came in third behind second running Iga Swiatek of Poland.
Interestingly, Eala will be facing one of the highest leapers in the rankings in Turkey’s Zeynep Sonmez in his first match in the Abu Dhabi Open.
Sonmez jumped 33 spots to No. 79, following a historic campaign in the Australian Open, where she became the very first Turkish player to advance to the third round.
