The stage is set for the 1v1 King of the Islands National Finals. A total of 32 players will see action on Saturday, February 28, at Market! Market! Activity Center to determine who will capture the ₱300,000 top prize.

Here’s a brief rundown of the tournament format, from the qualifying round up to the knockout stage.

1v1 King of the Islands National Finals Format

Qualifying Round

The opening stage of the National Finals will feature a qualifying round, with 24 players set to compete in this part of the tournament. The four highest-seeded players from the North and South Regionals, who joined the National Finals, were given byes to the knockout stage, leaving the remaining hoopers to battle it out for spots in the round of 16.

The 12 North representatives in the qualifying round will be distributed into four groups – Group A, Group C, Group E, and Group G. The 12 South representatives, on the other hand, will also be divided into four groups – Group B, Group D, Group F, and Group H.

A cross-over single-round robin tournament will then commence, with Group A facing Group B, Group C squaring off against Group D, Group E locking horns with Group F, and Group G battling Group H. Each player will play three games in the qualifying round.

The top-ranked players in each group will be determined based on their record. In case of a tie for the top spot, point differential will be used to determine who will win the group. In the event of a tie in point differential, a sudden-death free throw shootout will be conducted to determine the group winner.

The top-performing North players from Groups A, C, E, and G, shall be ranked 1 through 4 based on their record. The same goes as well for the top-performing South players from Groups B, D, F, and H.

In case of similar records between group winners, point differential will be used as a tiebreaker. In the event of a tie in point differential, a sudden-death free throw shootout will be used to determine the group winner.

Knockout round

In the North bracket, Nelo Santos, Andrew Langrio, Marc Mayo, and Keith Daguil will be assigned the winners of Groups A, C, E, and G, for their matchups in the round of 16. In the South bracket, Kean Planco, Rubino Singson, Jose Aluba, and Enrico Reyes will be assigned the winners of Groups B, D, F, and H, for their matchups in the round of 16.

A knockout format will be implemented in the round of 16, quarterfinals, and semifinals of the 1v1 King of the Islands National Finals. The winner of the North Finals and the winner of the South Finals will then square off in the championship match, with the victor taking home the P300,000 top prize.

Pocket Tournament

The 1v1 King of the Islands National Finals tournament offers fans the opportunity to vote for their favorite barangay heroes. The voting period will last until February 28, 2026, with the deadline set at 3 p.m.

Each user of the Alta Sports app can vote twice for free per day. After using their free votes, a person can cast additional votes through their Mango Coins. Each user has a limit of 10 votes per day.

The top two vote-getters from each region will advance to the Pocket Tournament at Market! Market! Activity Center. There’s a catch, though, as only players who failed to make the quarterfinals of the National Finals are eligible to participate in the Pocket Tournament.

If any of the top two vote-getters from each region advanced to the last eight, their spot will be given to the next highest vote-getter who is a non-quarterfinalist.

The top two vote-getters from the North will face each other in the semifinals, while the other pairing will feature a showdown between the two South representatives. The winners of those two games will square off in the Finals of the Pocket Tournament in a North vs. South clash, with the champion receiving a brand-new iPhone 17.

Team Competition

There's also a team component to the National Finals, with the region with the most victories in North vs. South matchups in the tournament set to receive a cash prize of ₱32,000 (₱2,000 per player).

There will be a total of 37 North vs. South games in the National Finals, 36 of which will transpire in the qualifying round. The 13th and last meeting between North and South players will happen in the championship match.
