SIBOL’s push for gold in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan is not just about stacking talent — it’s about limiting the options of everyone else.

With ML:BB officially part of the program for the Asian Games, the Philippine Esports Organization moved decisively, locking in three of the most accomplished Filipino tacticians in the scene: Francis “Duckey” Glindro of Team Falcons, Michael “Arcadia” Bocado of Selangor Red Giants, and Denver “Yeb” Miranda of ONIC Esports.

While their championship pedigrees are undeniable, SIBOL leadership made it clear that the move goes beyond simply strengthening its own bench.

PESO Executive Director Marlon “Lon” Marcelo framed the decision as both reinforcement and preemption.

“If you think about it, ‘yung ibang countries, ang titignan nila i-hire ay ‘yung mga Pinoy coaches din. So in a way, strategic advantage din ito for the team,” Marcelo said.

Filipino coaches have long been in demand across Southeast Asia, with many credited for shaping championship systems in Indonesia and Malaysia. By securing three of the most decorated names available, SIBOL not only consolidates elite tactical minds under one banner — it effectively narrows the coaching market for rival nations preparing for the same event.

The numbers underscore the weight of the acquisition.

Between them, Duckey, Arcadia, and Yeb own multiple titles across MPL Philippines, MPL Indonesia, and MPL Malaysia, along with regional and world championships in MSC and the M-Series.

For SIBOL general manager Leo “Jab” Escutin, the inclusion of ML:BB in the Asian Games presents a rare window for the Philippines to capitalize on a discipline it has historically dominated.

“The inclusion of MLBB in the Asian Games presents a historic opportunity for the Philippines to secure a gold medal,” Escutin said.

But instead of relying solely on player depth — an area where the Philippines traditionally thrives — SIBOL chose to widen the gap from the sidelines.

All three coaches will be hands-on throughout the regional qualifiers and the Asian Games proper, tasked not only with shaping the roster but also building a layered preparation structure.

As ML:BB makes its Asian Games debut, SIBOL’s approach signals a shift in how national esports programs think about competitive advantage. It is no longer just about fielding the best five players — it is about controlling the ecosystem around them.

In Japan next year, the battle may be fought on the Land of Dawn.

But long before the first wave of minions spawn, SIBOL has already made its move.
