Alex Eala will resume her campaign at the 2026 Miami Open on Sunday (PH time), with the Filipina tennis star set to face Magda Linette in the third round on Grandstand Court at Hard Rock Stadium.
This will be the fourth meeting between Eala and Linette on the WTA Tour, with the Polish player holding a 2-1 advantage. Linette won their first two head-to-head matchups, beating Eala at the 2024 Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open and in last year’s Nottingham Open.
Eala finally snapped her losing streak against Linette earlier this year, defeating her in straight sets at the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand.
Both Eala and Linette are coming off tough three-set victories in the second round. Eala battled back from a set down to beat 38-year-old Laura Siegemund, 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-3. The Quezon City native needed three hours and 20 minutes to secure the victory and advance to the round of 32 in Miami for the second straight year.
Linette, on the other hand, recorded the biggest upset win of the tournament thus far, beating World No. 3 Iga Swiatek, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3. She needed two hours and 10 minutes to oust her Polish compatriot.
