Basketball insider Shams Charania provided an update on Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant’s right knee injury during a television appearance, saying the veteran forward’s availability remains uncertain heading into Game 2 of the series against the Los Angeles Lakers.
“His status is up in the air,” Charania said. “My understanding is Kevin Durant is dealing with a deep bruise in his right patella tendon. The Rockets are optimistic that he could return as soon as Game 2, but it remains to be seen.”
Durant sustained the injury during a practice last Wednesday when he collided with a teammate while going for a loose ball, resulting in swelling and discomfort, according to Charania’s previous reporting.
The 37-year-old missed Houston’s Game 1 loss to the Lakers due to the right knee contusion. Los Angeles currently leads the series 1–0, with Game 2 set for tomorrow.
Durant has been a key piece for the Rockets this season, appearing in 78 games and averaging 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game. He is also just 15 points away from reaching 5,000 career playoff points, a milestone now on hold as his recovery timeline remains unclear.
