The San Antonio Spurs will be without their cornerstone as Victor Wembanyama has been ruled out of Game 3 against the Portland Trail Blazers due to a concussion, per Shams Charania.
Head coach Mitch Johnson shared a pregame update, saying Wembanyama is “progressing,” while noting the careful protocol required before he can return.
The injury occurred in Game 2 when Wembanyama hit his head on the floor during the second quarter. He exited and did not return, finishing with 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 block in 12 minutes. Without him, San Antonio fell 106-103, allowing Portland to even the series at 1-1.
Wembanyama’s absence is a major blow. The 22-year-old averaged 25.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists this season while leading the league in blocks and anchoring the Spurs’ 62-20 campaign. He also claimed NBA Defensive Player of the Year honors and remains a top MVP contender.
