This will be the second meeting between Eala and Wang on the WTA Tour, with the Chinese star holding a 1-0 advantage in their previous head-to-head matchups. Wang defeated Eala in the semifinals of the ASB Classic last January, securing a thrilling 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 victory.
This will be the pair’s first meeting on clay, though, with their previous meeting happening on a hard court in New Zealand. Eala improved her record on clay this season to 3-3 after beating Magdalena Frech 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 in the round of 128.
