Alex Eala barged into the third round of the 2026 Italian Open on Friday after she defeated No. 31 seed Xinyu Wang 6-4, 6-3 in their round of 64 clash on Pietrangeli Stadium at Foro Italico.
The Filipina tennis star overcame a poor start to reach the third round of a WTA 1000 clay event for the first time in her young career.

Eala dropped her first two service games to fall behind 0-3 in the first set against the Chinese star. The Quezon City native battled back, though, winning six of the next seven games to take the first set in 39 minutes.
Wang grabbed the first break in the second set to take a 3-2 lead. Eala responded by winning the next four games to finish the match in one hour and 26 minutes.
Eala will next face the winner of the match between Elena Rybakina and Maria Sakkari in the third round.
