Filipino world champion Melvin Jerusalem assured that no stone would be left unturned as he stakes his World Boxing Council minimumweight crown against Siyakholwa Kuse at the Emperor’s Palace in South Africa on Saturday,
The 32-year-old fighter said he’s not being complacent even as he had already beaten Kuse in their first meeting during the Thrilla in Manila celebration at the Araneta Coliseum last year.
For one, Kuse is now relishing the home-court advantage — something that could fire up the formidable challenger.
“We know what Kuse brings to the table; he is a fast and technical fighter, but we are here to show why we are the champions,” said Jerusalem during the final press conference.
Jerusalem is entering his fourth title defense of the WBC strap and he’s naturally not afraid of staking that same belt he defended at home this time at the opponent’s turf.
“I trust myself. That’s why I accepted this offer from Golden Gloves to fight here,” added the Filipino who packs a 25-3 record with 12 knockouts.
Jerusalem spent the last three weeks training in Johannesburg, South Africa to get himself acclimated to the new environment.
Kuse, who boasts a 9-3-1 slate, believes he now has the better chance against the champion although stressing that he still has to earn the crown.
“Going the full 12 rounds is what we planned and trained for but if an opportunity for stoppage presents itself, then why not,” said Kuse.
