On the most painful day of his life, Duane “Kelra” Pillas chose to play.
Just hours after losing his father, Rex, the Filipino superstar stepped onto the stage for ONIC Esports and delivered one of the most emotional performances of his career.
With grief weighing heavily on his shoulders, Kelra led ONIC to a dramatic 2-1 reverse sweep over Alter Ego last Sunday, helping his squad become the first team to secure a playoff berth in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Indonesia Season 17.

For many players, the loss would have been too overwhelming to endure. But for Kelra, the match became something greater than competition. It became a tribute to the man who stood behind him from the very beginning.
Rex was more than just a father. He was one of Kelra’s most loyal supporters, following his son’s journey from the moment a 15-year-old boy dared to chase an unconventional dream in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
Though skeptical at first, Rex eventually saw how much joy the game brought his son. Instead of holding him back, he gave Kelra his blessing and remained a constant presence throughout the young prodigy’s rise.
Kelra made sure that faith was rewarded.

From winning the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Southeast Asia Cup 2021 to capturing the MPL Philippines Season 14 title, conquering the M6 World Championship, and representing the Philippines under SIBOL, Kelra built one of the most decorated careers in Philippine esports.
Now competing abroad as an import in Indonesia, he has become one of the country's most successful professional gamers.
Behind every trophy, every championship, and every milestone was the quiet support of his father, whose belief helped turn a teenager’s passion into a life-changing career.
That is why, even while mourning, the M6 Finals MVP insisted on taking the stage.
“To be honest, this is a new experience for me. And I didn't expect it to happen today. But what I want to highlight is Kelra's mentality,” said ONIC Esports head coach Calvin “CW” Winata.
“No one forced him to play, we could have used Samuel. But on the exact day he lost his father, he still wanted to pay tribute and give everything to win for his father. He has an incredibly strong mentality, which makes me respect him even more as a player,” he added.
On a day defined by heartbreak, Kelra transformed his grief into strength and his pain into purpose.
And as ONIC celebrated a comeback victory and a place in the playoffs, one truth stood above everything else: this win belonged to Rex Pillas, the father who believed in his son long before the world ever knew his name.
