Filipino fans are hoping that Alex Eala can secure her first-ever match win at Roland Garros and make a deep run at the 2026 French Open. The road to the finals will be a difficult one, though, for Eala as she was handed a tough draw in the women’s singles event.
Eala will open her French Open campaign with a first-round showdown against World No. 17 Iva Jovic. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two close friends on the WTA Tour.
If Eala manages to upset Jovic, she will then face the winner of the showdown between Emma Navarro and Janice Tjen in the second round. While a clash between the Southeast Asian sisters is a tantalizing possibility, Navarro is more likely to advance as she is fresh off winning the Strasbourg Open title.
Other possible opponents for Eala in the latter stages of the French Open are Naomi Osaka in the third round, World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the fourth round, Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals, defending champion Coco Gauff in the semifinals, and Queen of Clay and four-time French Open champion Iga Swiatek in the finals.
