Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has announced his squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026™.

The UEFA EURO 2024-winning tactician has an abundance of riches at his disposal, with Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal leading the way. Sixteen players who helped La Roja secure continental honours two years ago are in the squad for the global finals. In addition to Yamal, De la Fuente will be relying on other key figures such as Mikel Oyarzabal, Rodri, Pedri and Marc Cucurella.

Among the notable inclusions are Marc Pubill and Eric Garcia. Atletico Madrid defender Pubill has yet to debut with the senior side, while Garcia's renaissance at Barcelona earned the defender his first call-up since Qatar 2022. In goal, Joan Garcia will join Unai Simon and David Raya behind a back-line that has only three of the eight defenders who helped conquer Europe in 2024: Cucurella, Alejandro Grimaldo and Aymeric Laporte.

There is ample skill and experience in midfield with Mikel Merino, Dani Olmo, Pedri, Rodri and Martin Zubimendi, while Victor Munoz's good form earns a nod to bring punch to the wings with Yeremy Pino, Nico Williams and Yamal. Up top, a lethal trio of strikers will keep opposing defenders busy in Borja Iglesias, Oyarzabal and Ferran Torres.

Some of the notable omissions include Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen, Villarreal midfielder Alberto Moleiro and Betis attacker Pablo Fornals, in addition to Barcelona winger Fermin Lopez, who suffered a fracture in his right foot last week.

"The roster was almost finalised months ago, we were just waiting to see what happened in each game. I want to send special regards to Fermin [Lopez]. Up until yesterday we were monitoring all of the players to make sure they were in top condition."Eric [Garcia] has been with me before. I know what kind of person he is and he is going to fit right in with this group. [Marc] Pubill has not been with me before but he was with [Santi] Denia in the U-19s and U-21s. We know him very well. Pubill brings a lot to the table. He can play in various positions, and we are well-covered in those areas.

"Victor [Munoz] has been a player who has a lot of energy. He brings quickness and intensity, a change of pace and can even play on the inside. I think we are going to need him in a lot of matches and he's excited about it. I'm glad that's the case."

"We suffered a lot from Pedri's injury in the EURO, so I'm happy to be able to have him here. If he can keep playing at the same level as he does for his club, I'll be happy with that. What's great is that he can still get better and hopefully he will in the World Cup."
