RJ Abarrientos was not satisfied with his overall play in Game 1 despite being one of the heroes in Barangay Ginebra’s win to open the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) 50 Commissioner’s Cup finals.

Abarrientos topscored for Barangay Ginebra with 24 points, and even made two four-point shots in the end game to rescue the Gin Kings in Game 1 after losing an 18-point lead.

Justin Brownlee later made the game-winning jumper with 0.6 seconds to lift the Gin Kings to a 102-100 win.

But Abarrientos said Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone got angry with him at point in the game for a missed defensive assignment against Rey Nambatac, who fueled TNT’s comeback bid from a 64-46 lead.

“Coach Tim was pissed at me. My defense against Nambatac wasn’t good. In the finals, it can’t happen again. I need to be better than that because we are all professionals,” said Abarrientos.

Ahead of Game 2 to be played on Friday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum, Abarrientos said Barangay Ginebra needs to do a better job of defending.

“We played bad in the second half. My two four point shots, that’s not sustainable. We need to be better as a team and we need to be better as an individual player.”
