In Game 2 of the NBA Finals, the New York Knicks withstood a furious late rally from the San Antonio Spurs to secure a 105-104 victory. The win extended New York's playoff winning streak to 13 games and gave them a commanding 2-0 series lead. Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns delivered an outstanding performance, playing a pivotal role in the victory.
Towns got off to a strong start in the first quarter, contributing 5 points and 3 rebounds. He caught fire in the second quarter, shooting 4-of-5 from the field for 12 points and 4 rebounds.
His offensive outburst sparked a Knicks comeback after they had fallen behind by as many as 12 points, flipping the deficit into a lead. Towns' ability to stretch the floor with his three-point shooting and attack off the dribble gave Spurs star Victor Wembanyama fits. In the second quarter, Towns drove past Wembanyama and threw down an emphatic dunk. On the defensive end, Towns also did an excellent job limiting Wembanyama, who managed just 7 points in the first half. During the game, Towns was heard telling Wembanyama, "You can't guard me." His two-way impact on Wembanyama was a key factor in the Knicks' victory.
Towns finished the game with a team-high 21 points and 13 rebounds on 8-of-12 shooting.
