Karl-Anthony Towns credits Knicks’ experience after taking 2-0 lead vs. Spurs

Karl-Anthony Towns believes the New York Knicks’ early advantage in the NBA Finals Conference Finals comes down to something simple but often overlooked—experience.
After New York edged the San Antonio Spurs 105-104 in a tightly contested Game 2 at the Frost Bank Center, the Knicks now return home with a commanding 2-0 series lead and growing confidence in how they’re handling the biggest moments.
Towns led the way, finishing with a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds in a physical, grind-it-out road win that came down to the final possessions.
“I have been on the other side where you’re a young team and you’re trying to do a lot to win the game,” Towns said during the post-game press conference. “And I think that, for us, we keep leaning on experience and we keep leaning on the word execution.”
Still, Towns admitted that his squad is far from perfect despite the 2-0 lead.
“I think we did a good job when we needed to execute, but we didn’t do as well as we want to,” he said. “So when we get back to New York, we’ll get back to work. We’ll get back to the gym and try to correct the mistakes we made tonight.”
Head coach Mike Brown echoed that sentiment, emphasizing how crucial adaptability has been for the Knicks’ success, especially when managing a roster filled with multiple high-level scorers.
“It’s my job as a coach to fit whatever scheme we have on both sides of the floor to all of our players,” Brown said. “And if you’re a great player, I got to make a little more adjustment.”
“We finally got to a point where [KAT] was comfortable, I was comfortable, Jalen (Brunson) was comfortable, OG (Anunoby) was comfortable, and Mikal (Bridges) was comfortable,” he added.
