RJ Abarrientos is thinking of team glory rather than individual success even with him being a strong candidate for the Best Player of the Conference (BPC) in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) 50 Commissioner’s Cup.
Abarrientos is favored to win the BPC honors for the Commissioner’s Cup to be handed before Game 4 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
After the elimination round, Abarrientos was at No. 3 in the BPC race behind top-ranked Robert Bolick of NLEX and June Mar Fajardo of San Miguel. But Bolick and San Miguel have since been ousted from the title picture after being eliminated in the quarterfinals.
“I’m not looking for the individual award. We need to get Game 4, and hopefully, we continue winning,” said Abarrientos.
“I’m thankful and grateful that I’m at No. 1. Before, I was No. 1 in class for being noisy,” said Abarrientos in jest.
Abarrientos said winning games will be difficult especially heading for Game 4 where TNT will look to even the best-of-seven finals series after the Tropang 5G lost in Game 3, 116-102.
“I know that they can adjust, we will see what adjustments we need to make for Game 4,” said Abarrientos.
