Sources familiar with the situation shared the unfortunate development, which occurred during a game unrelated to his responsibilities with San Beda.

Gonzales, whom Red Lions head coach Yuri Escueta once hailed as the "best point guard in the NCAA," stamped his class during the Season 101 finals, where San Beda swept its longtime rival Letran College.

The 22-year-old was solid on both ends, averaging 16.5 points, 4.5 assists, and 2.3 rebounds while also hounding Knights star Titing Manalili on defense.

The Red Lions will now look to the likes of Jimmy Reyes and recruit Daniel Marcelo to fill the void left by Gonzales.
