Mohammed Mohebi rescued a point for Iran to deny New Zealand a historic first World Cup win as the sides drew 2-2 in their Group G clash on Tuesday (PH time) in Los Angeles.
Mohebi equalized for the Asian giants in the 64th minute, heading in a sublime cross from Saman Ghoddos.
Elijah Just starred for the All Whites in this contest, giving New Zealand the lead on two separate occasions. He opened the scoring in the seventh minute, blasting in a right-footed effort after linking up with Chris Wood inside the box.
Iran equalized in the 32nd minute through Ramin Rezaeian after he pounced on a loose ball. Just restored New Zealand's lead in the 54th minute following a fabulous 1-2 play with Wood.
Mohebi's equalizer meant that all four teams in Group G have one point each after their opening matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Belgium and Egypt had earlier drawn 1-1 in their showdown.
