England made a winning start to its 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign on Thursday (PH time), beating Croatia 4-2 in a high-scoring Group L thriller at Dallas Stadium.
Harry Kane gave the Three Lions the lead in the 12th minute through a twice taken spot-kick after Luka Modric was adjudged to have fouled Noni Madueke inside the box.
Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic saved Kane's first attempt but was penalized for encroaching off his goalline. Kane took full advantage of the second opportunity, burying the penalty for a 1-0 lead.
Croatia drew level in the 36th minute after Martin Baturina sent a powerful drive past England keeper Jordan Pickford, who was able to get a touch on the ball but could not keep it out.

Kane restored England's lead in the 42nd minute, heading home Declan Rice's corner kick. Their joy was short-lived, though, as Croatia equalized again seconds before halftime through Petar Musa's sidefoot finish.
Jude Bellingham gave England the lead back minutes after the restart with a powerful run and finish. Marcus Rashford sealed the victory in the 85th minute, with the substitute's composed finish securing all three points for England.
