Alex Eala failed in her bid to reach the fourth round of the Italian Open for the first time in her career, losing to World No. 2 Elena Rybakina 4-6, 3-6, in their Round of 32 clash on Sunday at BNP Paribas Arena in Rome.

Eala held her own against Rybakina in a tight first set, which lasted 52 minutes. The Filipina tennis star blasted 13 winners against the reigning Australian Open champion, with her serve broken just once in Set 1.

Rybakina quickly took control in Set 2, breaking Eala's serve in the opening game. The Quezon City native broke right back in the following game and then consolidated it with a service hold to grab a 2-1 lead.

The Kazakh responded immediately, winning five of the next six games to finish the match in one hour and 32 minutes.
