Meralco overcame Magnolia, 105-102, in overtime last Saturday to advance to the semifinals of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) 50 Commissioner's Cup at the Ynares Center-Antipolo.
Bong Quinto knocked down a fadeaway shot with 37.9 seconds left in the extra period for a 102-100 lead, with the Bolts later preserving the lead until the final buzzer.
Meralco snapped a two-game losing streak against Magnolia to clinch a spot in the semifinals where it will face either NLEX or TNT.
The Bolts survived the effort of Jerom Lastimosa, who sent the game into overtime with a floater to even the count at 92.
Lastimosa was unable to tie the game after making just one free throw with 23.5 seconds left. Lastimosa later finished with 28 points, but Magnolia lost Clint Chapman in the fourth quarter after fouling out.
Marvin Jones had 28 points and nine rebounds, and Chris Newsome had 18 points and five assists for Meralco.
